Adoption process and frequently asked questions

What is your adoption process?

  1. First, you must apply for a cat using our adoption application. We recommend filling this out before you visit the adoption center to ensure we have your application on file. You can find our adoption application here. (Please note: Some cats may be pending adoption by another candidate at the time of your application.)
  2. Check your inbox/spam for instructions to complete your application. We require photos of your living space sent to our email at adoptions@kingdomrescue.org.
  3. Next, we highly recommend you visit our Gonzales Pet Adoption Center to make sure you find the right cat for your home! If you are unable to visit, contact us to learn more about the cats we have available. We are located at 505 St. Francis Gonzales, TX. You can learn more about our hours of operation here.  You can also see our adoptable animals on our webpage here.  (This page is always changing, we encourage you to ask us for updated photos of available cats!)
  4. If we approve of your application, we will contact you to schedule an interview with our adoption counselor. Adoptions are not approved until we send you an email confirmation or a phone call.
  5. If you are approved to adopt, we will contact you to schedule a time to pick up your new cat!

Adoption fees at Gonzales Pet Adoption Center ONLY

Discounts are available to cats that are adopted at our pet adoption center in Gonzales, Texas.

Discounted rates at the adoption center are:

$75 for cats/kittens ($45 special rates during holidays)

$35 for barn cats

All cats/kittens are spayed/neutered, rabies vaccinated, FVRCP vaccinated, microchipped, FIV/FeLV snap test negative, dewormed, and on flea/tick prevention. The adoption fee covers the cost of all of these expenses incurred by our rescue.

What is the process to adopt a barn cat?

  1. Submit a barn cat adoption application.
  2. Demonstrate a safe barn or structure (i.e. garage or barn) that shelters cats away from extreme weather. We will ask for photos that show us where the cat will be kept away from harm or extreme weather conditions.
  3. Agree to confine the cat for 4-6 weeks during the transition period. Learn more about preparing for a barn cat on our recent article found here.
  4. Ensure the environment is safe from predators like coyotes. If we believe the cat will be at risk of harm, we will not approve the adoption.
  5. Sign an adoption contract. The adoption fee for barn cats is $35.
  6. Transition the cat gradually to the outdoors until it's ready to be fully outside on its own. Please contact us for questions.

Why do you sometimes not do same day adoptions?

We know that meeting a new cat is a fun experience and it's even more exciting when you can take your cat home the same day! Cats are a lifelong commitment and we believe it's important for candidates to think about the decision before jumping in! If you plan on visiting our adoption center, we recommend sending an application before you visit to speed up the process! If you fill out the application AND complete an interview before visiting, this WILL speed up the process.

What if I am denied/rejected to adopt?

Majority of the time, candidates are rejected or declined because we have found the perfect home for the cat via another candidate. As a rescue, it's our top priority to find the best home for our cats and kittens and we take every effort to screen for the best candidate(s). Please understand we receive at least 10-20 applications a week for our cats and do our best at responding to every inquiry. If you are selected to be interviewed, you will receive an email from us. Always check your spam/junk folder if you have not heard back from us!

What if my cat gets sick after coming home?

If your cat becomes sick after coming home, it's important to act promptly to ensure their health and well-being. Contact our rescue immediately to discuss the symptoms your cat is experiencing. We strongly recommend reaching out to us as soon as possible, as we can provide guidance tailored to your cat's specific situation, including recommendation to visit a veterinarian.

Depending on the severity of the symptoms, we may recommend seeking veterinary care promptly. In some cases, we can recommend a veterinarian who is familiar with our rescue animals and can provide the necessary care.

Remember, early intervention is key in treating illnesses in cats. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you notice any concerning symptoms in your cat after bringing them home. We're here to support you and your furry friend every step of the way.
