Fill out the foster
application form. We’ll ask about
your pet experience, living
situation, and fostering
preferences for new pets in your home.
Someone from our team will text or email you to set up a phone interview. During this call, we will go over foster expectations and what it takes to be a foster parent.
Once approved, we will add you to our foster network and help you find the right match for your home. We provide supplies and support.
As a foster parent, your
role is to offer love, care,
and basic training, helping
your foster pet feel safe
and cherished until they
find their forever home.

Fostering involves giving a homeless dog or cat a temporary, safe place in your home while they prepare to find their forever home. Most foster pets will stay for 4 weeks to 12 weeks, though some may need longer, especially if they require extensive medical care such as surgeries or heartworm treatment. We welcome both short-term and committed fosters into our program. Of course, we prefer more committed fosters due to the high-volume of pets that need homes.
Everything you physically need to care for your foster, like crates, food, bowls, toys, veterinary care, and more, will be provided by the rescue. We ask that you personally provide transportation to any necessary veterinary visits or adoptions events, as well as love, time, and patience while your foster pet lives in your home. We also will complete a phone interview to answer any questions, assign you a foster coordinator, and may ask for photos of the inside of your home or backyard to become a foster parent.
The most important part of your job as a foster will be to help introduce your foster animal to a home environment by giving him/her some basic training, socialization, and lots of love. You will also be expected to arrange and provide transportation to and from any of your foster animal’s necessary veterinary visits and adoption events, as coordinated by your foster coordinator. These visits may be routine or emergent but we will work with your schedule, nonetheless.
You will be responsible for writing a biography and for providing good photos of your foster animal to use on their adoption profile. These items are extremely important in getting people excited to meet and potentially adopt your foster!
Our rescue will cover all medical experiences for the foster pets and may occasionally request that dewormer and flea/preventatives are given to their foster pet while in your home.
Kingdom Rescue fosters receive the following care:
Case-by-case basis care is also provided, including:
No expenses are required by the foster parents.
When a potential adopter submits an adoption application for your foster animal, one of the rescue’s adoption coordinators, will send you the applicant’s information via email if they believe the adopter may be a good fit for your foster pet. You are expected to contact the applicant via email, phone, or virtual visit to discuss your foster animal to see if the animal is a good fit for the applicant.
As a foster, it is your job to be an advocate for your foster animal. Please go over your animal’s behaviors, habits, routine, and quirks – the good, the bad, and the ugly! Applicants rely nearly exclusively on the information you provide to determine if the animal they are interested in is actually a good fit for their family dynamic. Good information can include if the pet is potty trained, good with cats, dogs, or children, kennel trained, good on a leash, or likes to play fetch!
If it is decided that the animal in question may be a good fit, a meet and greet should be arranged. This meeting can be performed at a location of mutual choosing, including your home, the applicant’s home, or a neutral location such as a public park or pet store. It is up to you to determine a location for a meet and greet that your animal is comfortable with.
Please keep the adoption coordinator in the loop of any text messaging between you and the adopter. This will ensure that we are supporting you in the process and can process the adoption once the adopter is approved. Do not forget to take the cute adoption photo!!
Absolutely! We LOVE when our fosters promote their foster pets on their social media pages and with friends and family. We also encourage fosters to promote their foster pet in-person sporting their "Adopt Me" bandanas during outside walks and at adoption events.
Absolutely, as long as we aren’t currently processing multiple adoption applications for your foster pet!
That is perfectly fine! Our fosters take vacations all the time. Please just notify us of potential vacation dates as soon as they are on your calendar and we will work on getting a temporary foster or boarding while you travel. Communication is key!
Communication is extremely important to us! We value our foster families and want to ensure they feel supported every step of the way. Once approved, you will be added to our Facebook Group for Kingdom Rescue Approved Foster where resources, upcoming event announcements, and information about foster pets will live. You will also be added to a Group Me or Message text thread with your foster coordinator, adoption coordinator, and medical team. Please use phone calls or text messages to stay in communication with our rescue team. It's very important that you also tell us if you have questions or need supplies for your pet. Please give us advance notice for supplies or upcoming schedule conflicts.

Rex was a stray puppy living in Guadalupe County, relying on the kindness of neighbors who fed him but were unable to bring him indoors. Thanks to a generous foster, Rex was welcomed into our rescue and given the care he needed, including vaccinations, deworming, veterinary evaluation, and neutering. After spending 12 weeks in a loving foster home, Rex was matched with his perfect forever family
